As a Buddhist vegetarian with more than 20 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, Mr Tan Goon Huat has a strong empathy for vegetarians and vegan (people who only consume plant-based foods) Having observed the gradual growth in the health benefits of a vegetarian lifestyle – and the ensuing demand for premium dried and frozen vegan mock meat and seasonings on a global basis, Mr Tan set up Ming Xin Trading (1997) in 1997 locally as a wholesaler and retailer in the industry.

Ming Xin Trading currently has about 200 products and supplies them to a large variety of clients, including hawker stalls in food centres and schools, restaurants, temples, hotels, hospitals. It also supplies to shops retailing organic and vegetarian foodstuffs.

The husband and wife team plans to further extend their market networks amongst the local food centre hawkers, as well as wholesalers and retailers in Australia and Malaysia. Currently, Ming Xin Trading is in the midst of creating more convenient ready-to-use seasonings to add-on to their already existing range of products to attract more consumers while offering more selections. Ming Xin Trading (1997) hopes that with the increase in different varieties of high quality and tasty vegetarian products available in the market, more people will be able to enjoy their chosen diet; hence, improve their health and quality of life.
