Greener Pastures
As waistlines of Singaporeans grow bigger, more and more Singapore turn to eating healthy. One of the more trusted ways is going vegetarian. Besides supporting a Chinese Organization that Mdm. Tan is actively participating in, she saw great opportunity in the food and beverage market for the demand of vegetarian and healthy foods. Even when faced with manpower shortage, recruitment problems, high operating costs, Mdm. Tan took it upon herself to overcome the increasing workload by working more than 14 hours. This helped to keep cost down, which she then passed on to her loyal customers. Operating at 482 Jurong West Street 41, Takara Vegetarian mainly offers frozen items like mock meats, vegetarian dumplings, mock Kung Bao Chicken, dried foods and instant noodles. Takara Vegetarian also sells a variety of products, ranging from vegetarian restaurant fare, to gift hampers catered to vegetarians, and most distinctively their line of vegetarian pet products. Mdm. Tan plans to move from supplying vegetarian food to opening a vegetarian restaurant. Partially a business venture, another is an attempt to combine her love for cooking and health into her enterprise. But like her advice to would-be entrepreneurs, hard work is the key, and should take things step-by-step
